Do You Need New Electrical Wiring Installation in Northern Virginia?
Wiring in homes can typically last for decades – but it won’t last forever. Numerous problems may contribute to wiring problems in a home, such as animals gnawing on wires. Or, in some cases, older wiring just isn’t suitable for the demands of modern electrical appliances. In any case, there are numerous reasons you might need a new electrical wiring installation in Northern Virginia.
We are your on-call experts for Northern Virginia wiring repair, upgrades, and installation – and we know when wiring is starting to go bad. If you’re experiencing any of the following problems, it’s probably time for a wiring upgrade.
Four Signs You Need a New Electrical Wiring Installation
1. Any signs of smoke
If you ever smell smoke or see even small amounts of smoke coming from your wall outlet, stop using it immediately and turn off the associated circuit breaker. This is a genuine fire hazard, and that’s nothing to ignore: electrical fires are one of the most common causes of home fires in America. It’s also a significant risk to whatever devices are plugged into that outlet.
It may be possible to repair, but you need experienced electrical experts to evaluate the situation.
2. You have aluminum wiring from the 1960s-80s
For a time in the 20th Century, aluminum wiring was widely used in homes instead of copper, due to it being less expensive. Unfortunately, over the years, aluminum has proven to be a poor substitute, and not capable of handling the electrical loads of a modern household.
If your home still has aluminum wiring, you may need an upgrade.
3. Frequent tripped circuits
There are numerous reasons a circuit breaker or fuse may trip, but this should be a rare occurrence. If it happens frequently, such as weekly, that means your electrical system isn’t capable of handling all the things you have plugged in and you need an upgrade.
4. Dimming lights
As with circuit breaker issues, frequent “brownouts” where your lights dim is another sign that your current electrical system is struggling to deliver enough power. In some ways, this is worse, since at least tripped circuit breakers reduce the chances of fire.
